Education & Training
I earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Mars Hill University before attending graduate school at Western Carolina University. While working on my master’s degree, also in social work, my concentration was integrative care, the nexus between physical and mental health. Today, I draw from my experience in this area to support my patients’ whole-person wellness.
Perhaps my most profound preparation for counseling comes from personal experience: I’ve
been in sustained recovery from alcohol use disorder and major depression for 15+ years. This
enables me to empathize with the pains my patients are enduring and to appreciate the vast
courage it takes for them to enter treatment.

Approach
Patients whom I treat typically come from a wide array of backgrounds and with greatly
different challenges, so I strive always to “meet people where they are.” Although I can’t “fix”
anyone (sorry, no magic wands-no potions, aaagh…), I do have the power to provide
compassionate care that supports dignity and right to personal decision. My mission is to
empower those I serve to achieve the joy they see in others but struggle to find for themselves.
