I Can’t Complain

Opportunities

I’ve found that a great way to make friends is by politely challenging their answers to a common question. If they respond to How are you? with “I can’t complain or shouldn’t complain,” I lightheartedly reply, Why? I’ll listen.Sure, over time my oddball question has met with a few raised eyebrows and nervous giggles. While some people may think I’m being a smart-ass, others likely judge me to be a dunce. Nevertheless, I try to take those reactions in stride. By asking, I’m not trying to be funny or to endorse self-pity but instead to emphasize their importance.  I’m attempting to demonstrate that they deserve attention-even if it’s only for the moment I can typically offer. If this promotes the mental health rewards of human connection, it seems like a worthwhile investment of time and energy. Oh, and did I mention that a few good friendships have started this way?“Like a well-oiled machine, we’ve all been connected since the beginning of time through a beautiful, mystical process of unity.”         Amy Leigh Mercreehttps://visiblenetworklabs.com/2020/10/16/thirty-three-best-social-connection-quotes/Image courtesy of pixabay, Moshehar,  user_id:7046690 https://pixabay.com/users/moshehar-7046690/
